Nice braids, not so nice teef

I'm just waiting for hipsters to discover old school NYC double dutch's connection to hip hop and spew their version of it.. I can already see that end pose printed on some horrid t-shirt.

There was supposedly a popping showcase when these girls had double dutch classes in Brixton. I wonder who the poppers where, and if it's on the documentary that these videos are from..

..Hey, I kinda like that british teacher's hair/style as well! And yeah, I believe those girls where in Malcolm McLaren's video.

Another sunday, another Kool Moe Dee video

I still remember tapeing my first proper rap-tape that I had taped off the radio back in 1987, after my young mind had gained more understanding of what rapping was about as I had just moved houses with my family and around that time (maybe just afterwards, when I got my commodore 64) gotten a TV in my room with cable channels with a lot of hip hop content like MTV, sky, super channel, and french TV5. I say first proper rap-tape as the tapes I before that had all been breaking-tapes, with anything that was popular to break to.

If I've ever had a life changing tape, that's the one, and Ive still got it after all these years too. The sound quality is all muddled and hissy after endless plays for years and years, but it's still around. And this is the song that I most clearly remember being my favourite for a while, as I also remember it being my favourite song in general a couple of years later when I was about 10. Even though I'm pretty sure 'peter piper' was my favourite on the tape for a while as well, 'paid in full' was just incredible, and 'rock the bells' (live at the def jam tour) was insane too! It's funny how those three are all concidered bigger classics than the Kool Moe Dee song nowadays.. Better remembered, and more often spoken of anyway.

So here it is, another sunday Kool Moe Dee video. BTW check out T la rock intimide that sucker MC at 1:26 :D

A hip hop music video

No bling, no gang signs, no bimbos, no bullshit..

Wow, what a 1997 flashback this video is..

It's funny how the german style breakers breaks' beats wasn't that well liked by people I knew. But it has still held up soo much better than, for instance the UK sound that used to be much more popular. Now that I think of it, I can't even remember a single one of the UK artists that people used to break too, nore any of their songs.... Again, no bullshit. Hats off to the germans.

Skweee post #1: Joxaren at Dust/Daniel Savio's birthday party

I predict a good amount of skweee content on this blog as I've got a bunch of skweee recordings to share by now.. First up is a video of Joxaren performing at Daniel Savio AKA Kool DJ Dust's birthday celebration, held at Dust's club night 'sen kväll med kool', at tranan in Odenplan.

Early New York train graffiti and other scenes of late 70's New York with exclusive music by Charles Mingus which is only to be found on this video. Nice.

As I don't want to hotlink downloads of copyrighted material I'm going to go ahead and do this.

Just ja!

Scratchsession-warming up party to the EPMD show

Here's a video of local DJ's 1210jazz (ODB shirt) and Dungen (in the red kangol) having a few beers before the EPMD show in Stockholm 3/3/2011. The afterparty videos are kinda not really worth uploading.. I was pretty surprised that I made it home that evening! Especially that I managed to bring home both of the two records I was carrying with me!

E.U. at brooklyn tech

Oh and speaking of 80's go-go classics, I saw that a comment to the youtube video of E.U.'s 'da butt' claims that the video was shot at brooklyn tech high school AKA cybertron; where the decepticons/decepts where started and had their home base at the time.

Here's another performance of 'da butt' performed at a whole other school.

DC Scorpio

I just noticed that there's a follow up to DC Scorpio's 'stone cold hustler' record, that I've overlooked. Nice.

The original 'stone cold hustler' as featured on the 'go-go live at the capital centre' record and VHS home video.

Del tha funkee homosapien

Del is supposed to be touring Australia soon, so I'm going to go ahead and hope that he'll finally get around to show in Sweden as well.. He still hasn't had a show here. Anyway, here's a song of his that's always been a big favourite of mine; 'catch a bad one'.

EDIT:...and fuck warner for not letting people embed their youtube videos on other sites.

Once again it's on..

Part of my motivation for making this blog is the idea of having some of my favourite links gathered in one place, the way you used to be able to browse posted links on facebook until a few moths ago when the facebook profile pages got redesigned. It used to be my link collection, as well as playlist, and now I'll be reposting some of those links and videos on this blog so that I'll have them all in one place, so bare with me if you've already seen some of my posts earlier on facebook. Like this one.

Here's one I hadn't posted yet; fresh commandments.

A post without a sci-fi beer commercial would be somewhat of a cop out, right?

Speaking of VHS tapes..and selling off stuff... I've been thinking of selling some of my old tapes as theyre taking too much room, even as they've been moved to the basement. One of them is a tape of the original (swedish PAL) release of 'Bruce Lee against supermen' starring Bruce Lee imitator Bruce Li. I believe that this film might be the origin of the breaking move 'superman', as it's rumoured to have been originated from a kung fu film, and the main bad guy in this film is actually a fighter called 'superman', who does the move. Should anyone's be interested in the tape, get in touch. If I remember correctly the tape is an ex-rental, but still plays well.

I could'nt find a clip of superman doing the 'superman' move, I did however find a video of the big fight between him and Bruce Lee(Li) that ends the film. As you'll see at the end of the clip the film features a nice little bit of 'green hornet' rip off too!

And yeah, I'm aware that it's kind of a shit blog post since I didn't post a video of superman doing the move. It doesn't even have a title either.

Record fair this saturday..

...And I'll be there, hopefully selling some records. My biggest concern is selling off my disco, balearic, and 80's funk, I guess. The organisers arrange clubs that play shose styles, so I'm hopeful. Even though there'll probably be a lot of other stuff in my crates as well. I think I'll bring any hip hop though.

If youre in Stockholm, check it out, it's held at renseriet on Bolidenvägen 16B in Globen, from 12 o'clock to 19 with no entrance fee. Most of the people who will be selling records are DJ's, and some producers as well, with at least a background in hip hop, rather than the usual record dealers. So I personally find this to be a much more exciting record fair than the ones that are usually held in Stockholm, which lean heavily towards rock and pop. There will be a listening station for records found, as well as a bar and a café. You can even play your newly bought records played in the bar afterwards.

Obskyr; lokal rap.

Man ska väl sparka igång bloggen med låten 'jakanboyz', gjord av en skön grabb ifrån Jakobsberg; Obskyr.

Flea market drought (to the left, to the right)

So, in Stockholm, where I'm from there doesn't seem to be many records to be found in flea markets, thrift shop and similar shops lately. If I should get visitors from other places to this blog (yeah, right), I'd appreciate a comment on how things are looking where you're from. And for you locals, whats your experiences? Is this a passing phase that will pass as the hype on vinyl records, and it's supposed value eventually fades away?

Funké funké wisdom

It hasn't been more than two, three weeks since I moved my VHS tapes to the basement and I'm already freaking out a bit.. Today, a sunday, won't be complete without Kool Moe Dee's 'funké funké wisdom' home video. But since it's a sunday, I'm not going to even concider looking for it.

Here's a music video that, if memory serves me right, is damn near a few minutes taken directly from the home video to give you a taste of blissful hung over sundays. That and my breath, probably.

Now, to start this off right.
